An insight into Mitrovic past performances in the Premier League.

Image
Mitrovic last season in the Premier league with a mere 3 goals was very much a disappointment for FPL managers and much like this coming season it happened on the back of a strong showing in the Championship the season before, which last time around built up a band wagon before the season had even started. Its easy to let recency bias of previous seasons effect our judgment of a players abilities, so this article will look at his appearances in the Premier league on a whole to allow managers to have a wider view of his ability to perform in the top flight. Mitrovic first appearance in the Premier League was at Newcastle aged just 21 in the 15/16 season. In the opening two games of the season he played a combined 23 mins across both games and managed a yellow card in both before  he was sent off at 16 mins in the fourth game in a 1-0 loss at Arsenal. He went on to play over 2,100 minutes appearing in a total of 34 games, staring 22, scoring 9 goals and making 4 assists. Ne...

The Brighton striker who scored 25 goals and got 10 assists last season.

Deniz Undav Signed for Brighton Hove Albion from newly promoted Belgium top flight side  Union Saint-Gilloise for £7.2m i n the summer of 2021 . His transfer included a loan back agreement which explains why you have probably never heard of him before. Well now his back at Brighton and could be the goal scoring striker they have desperately needed since their rise to the Premier League. The question now is can he make the transition many have failed to before.  21/22 was not a season to remember in the goals scoring department for Brighton. Only Wolves and Leeds scored less than their 42 goals of all the teams above the relegation zone. A three month Goalless barren spell running from 18th January until 24th April also highlighted the lack of attacking prowess upfront at the American Express Community Stadium. Over the season Brighton had an xG of 49.5 ranking them tenth in the league however they fell short by -7.5 only Leeds and Norwich performances' in f...

My approach to FPL for the 22/23 season

Image
21/22 Analysis and lessons identified  After two top 100k finishes in 18/19 and 19/20 I have since had two ultimately frustrating seasons finishing 204k and 161k respectively. So its time to take a look at my approach to playing the game and try to find my way back to the top 100k and ultimately to an ever elusive top 10k finish.  To help me look for areas of improvement I have looked back over the last season using the very useful transfer history tool at  https://leagueracefpl.info/   curtesy of u/Plastonick at r/FantasyPL on Reddit. Looking at the beginning of my season I tried to take a very cautious and considered approach with a fairly template team with hopes of putting last seasons 200k finish behind me.  Taking 89 points on the open GW felt like a successful start with a overall rank of just over 1.2m. I even managed to resist temptation and roll that first free transfer. But going into GW5 I was sat at around 1m OR having made up just 200k o...

The effect of the new 5 substitute rule on the viability of Tottenham Hotspur wingbacks.

Image
Antonio Conte is well known for his tendency to utilise attacking wingbacks. FPL managers will fondly remember Alonso under him at Chelsea managed 9 goals and 3 assists. More recently during his 20/21 session as the manager of Inter Milan his wing backs scored 15 goals and chipped in with 23 assists. This is something he continued to utilise last season on taking over as head coach at Spurs, his wingbacks managed an impressive 13 goals and assists between them in the 28 games he managed. Whilst Conte gives his wing backs the attacking freedom that FPL managers look for he is also careful to manage their minutes closely which can be detrimental to FPL points. During his 28 league games as the Spurs boss he has substituted one of his wingbacks off in 18 games, in 5 games he has substituted both and in just 5 games did both of his wingbacks play a full 90 mins. In order to see what the increase in substitutions to 5 could mean for the Spurs win backs we can look back to his 20/21 season a...
